Hi, I’m Lisa.
I'm a Registered Social Worker with over 20 years experience in child and youth mental health and substance use services - spanning leadership, prevention, system planning, and direct clinical and support work. I'm Circle of Security trained and work from a trauma-informed, attachment lens, which is therapist-speak for: I'm interested in what's happening underneath behaviour, not just what’s visible on the surface..
I'm also a parent to a spirited 10-year-old who keeps me humble (and occasionally hiding in the bathroom for three minutes of peace).
What I do
I work with children, teens, young adults and caregivers navigating the complicated experience of being a human in today’s world.- this includes anything from anxiety, school stress, substance use, identity development or existential angst, to emotional exhaustion, family conflict, co-parenting through/after separation, impacts of familial mental health and/or substance use and everything in between.
How I Work
My approach is holistic, evidence-based and rooted in real human connection with an hint of humour (sometimes playful, sometimes just plain dark).
I believe people already carry a great deal of wisdom within them — often it just takes support, perspective, and a safe enough space to harness it.
Together, we look at the patterns beneath distress, build greater self-understanding and compassion - both for yourself and your people ,We’ll explore practical, meaningful paths forward that are tailored to your actual life (not some idealistic version where you infallibly maintain your composure, and chant your way through despair).
I will give straight feedback when needed, invite you to tell me when I’ve lost you so I can adjust and do my best to ensure therapy feels like an invaluable use of your time.
You know your life best. I’m here to help you make sense of it from new angles, reconnect with your strengths, and leave sessions feeling more grounded, empowered, hopeful - taking steps toward an increased sense of ease and fulfilment..
What Guides My Work
Authenticity - I show up as my quirky self and I invite you to do the same.
Compassion - For yourself, your people, and the messy process of growth.
Curiosity - About what's underneath, what's possible, and what you already know.
Collaboration - This is your journey; I'm here to help you gain new perspective and hope as you move forward.
Community - No one can do this alone - we all need and deserve to belong.
Practicality - Real strategies for real life, Designed with and for you.
Creativity - therapy can look like deep conversations, or sometimes laughter, metaphors, movement, games, or communicating with a teen entirely through memes for the first ten minutes, All valid.
Accessibility -A big part of why I created a private practice was to provide an accessible service for people who may not realistically be able to afford private counselling and also can’t afford to wait months for public programs - If that sounds familiar, please feel free to reach out and we can talk about options together..
